Educational Qualifications
- Recognised MBBS degree included in the First Schedule, Second Schedule, or Part-II of the Third Schedule (excluding licentiate qualifications) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956
- Candidates with qualifications under Part-II of the Third Schedule must fulfil conditions specified under Section 13(3) of the IMC Act
- Post-Graduate Degree in the concerned speciality or super-speciality from a recognised teaching institute: MD / MS / DNB or equivalent qualification
- Super-Speciality Qualification: DM / M.Ch / DrNB in Neurosurgery

About the Role
A neurosurgeon is a specialized medical professional responsible for the surgical diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. The role involves advanced neurosurgical procedures, inpatient and outpatient care, emergency interventions, academic participation, and supervision of residents and junior faculty.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Clinical diagnosis and treatment of neurological and neurosurgical disorders
- Surgical management of brain, spine, spinal cord, and peripheral nerve conditions
- Participation in inpatient services and professional clinical practice
- Academic involvement and supervision of postgraduate trainees
Main Job Tasks & Clinical Responsibilities
- Examine, assess, and diagnose neurological disorders within approved privileges
- Perform neurosurgical procedures, including tumour removal, spinal surgeries, vascular interventions, and emergency surgeries
- Utilise advanced diagnostic techniques such as CT, MRI, PET, MEG, functional MRI, intraoperative MRI, and stereotactic radiosurgery (as applicable)
- Operate microscopes and robotic systems for microsurgical and minimally invasive procedures
- Assess surgical candidacy and develop treatment plans
- Maintain accurate medical records, case files, and documentation
- Prescribe medications and manage post-operative care
- Coordinate and supervise surgical teams, including residents, nurses, and technicians
- Communicate treatment plans and progress with patients and their families
- Handle emergency neurosurgical cases such as stroke, aneurysm, and trauma
- Collaborate with neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and other specialists
- Participate in academic conferences and remain updated with new advancements
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, ethical standards, and statutory regulations
