Qualifications:
Essential Criteria:
- FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent ophthalmic qualification
- Full GMC Registration with a License to Practise
- CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent training (or within 6 months of CCT date)
- On or eligible for the GMC specialist register
- Fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery

- Training in clinical and educational supervision
- Attendance at clinical leadership training
Job Description:
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist MD job with an interest in vitreo-retinal surgery. The post is based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road, and Moorfields at St George’s Hospital, London. The successful candidate will cover surgical operating lists as the lead surgeon and will manage patients seen in allocated VR/VRE clinics and operating sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for the care of vitreo-retinal patients across admitted and non-admitted pathways
- Participation in the on-call rota covering vitreo-retinal emergency work
- Management of elective theatre lists and outpatient clinics, including face-to-face, telephone, and virtual reviews
- Supervision of junior medical staff in VR/VRE clinics and theatre lists
- Active participation in formal and informal clinic teaching
- Clinical research participation where relevant
Experience & Skills:
Essential:
- High level of clinical and surgical expertise in vitreoretinal surgery
- Experience teaching at postgraduate levels
- Extensive experience managing complex vitreoretinal conditions
- Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Demonstrable experience leading research groups
- Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
Desirable:
- Clinical leadership and management experience
- Participation in service improvement and QIPP projects
- Experience in attracting research funding
