Required Qualifications
- MPH/MS with relevant classwork or experience in Infection Prevention, healthcare, public health, laboratory, or related field
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Ability to reliably attend in-person and virtual meetings
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Data collection and analysis, report writing, and data presentation skills
- Ability to use a variety of computer programs and software applications to apply epidemiologic principles
Desired Qualifications

Job Description
This MPH job for an Intermediate Infection Preventionist sets a professional example both within the department and as a representative of the department throughout the institution. The role supports public health jobs by focusing on infection prevention, surveillance, and quality improvement initiatives. This healthcare job allows professionals to work independently and collaboratively with minimal management oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- 30% Investigate clusters or outbreaks of infection using fundamental statistics or data tools. Develop, review, evaluate, and implement infection prevention and control policies to improve the quality of care. Consult with department and administrative staff on infection prevention and control issues. Represent the department/team at unit/institutional meetings.
- 30% Conduct IP assessments/rounding and perform coaching on infection prevention priorities such as The Joint Commission, hand hygiene, and healthcare-associated infection prevention.
- 10% Participate in interdisciplinary quality improvement projects, including creating education materials and programs for assigned areas, using data from dashboards and databases.
- 10% Collect, review, analyze, and interpret surveillance data using electronic medical records and applying NHSN definitions to populations independently with minimal oversight.
- 5%: Recommend appropriate actions to clinicians and administrators targeted to eliminate infectious risks in patients and staff. Conduct activities related to the exposure of patients and employees to communicable diseases. Plan, develop, and conduct educational programs for UMH employees.
- 5% Lead daily departmental huddles and other department-level meetings.
- 5% Participate in teaching opportunities in the School of Public Health/School of Nursing or equivalent.
- 5% Other duties as assigned.
