Job Description:
This Gastroenterologist Job involves joining the expanding Digestive Health program at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. The physician will provide comprehensive gastroenterology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
The role offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with hospitalists, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and primary care providers to deliver patient-centered care. Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency
- Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
- Eligible for or active Maine medical license
- DEA registration
- BLS and ACLS certification
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties
- Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including:
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- Colonoscopy
- Biopsy and polypectomy
- Hemostasis and dilation
- PEG placement
Patient Care
- Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal conditions such as:
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Liver disease and hepatitis
- Pancreatic disorders
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
Collaboration & Quality
- Collaborate with hospitalists, surgeons, oncology teams, radiology, and primary care physicians
- Participate in quality improvement and peer review initiatives
- Maintain accurate electronic medical record documentation
- Follow hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, and regulatory standards
- Participate in a shared call schedule
