Medical Officer Job Description and Expectations
Clinical Responsibilities:
- New ICU Admissions:
- Attend to all new patients to ICU within 10 minutes of admission.
- New patient assessment to be finished within 30 minutes of admission.
- Inform ICU Consultant(s) of all new admissions as soon as assessment is completed.
- All ICU Patients:
- Round-the-clock medical management of all ICU and HDU patients.
- Regular rounds of the ICU and HDU for patient management.
- Meticulous documentation of all medical notes, as per hospital policy.
- Presentation and discussion of all cases with ICU Consultant(s) during rounds.
Documentation Requirements for the Medical Officer Job:
- Daily patient clinical progress notes and assessments.
- All relevant events, consent forms, medication and investigation orders.
- Communication and referrals to other specialties.
Communication Expectations:
- Effective communication with patients, family members, and colleagues.
- Documented handover to the next MO/Registrar on duty.
- Regular briefing of the ICU Consultant(s) and primary Consultant.
Demeanour and Professionalism:
- Respectful and empathetic communication with all concerned.
- Punctuality in duty schedules.
Remuneration: Commensurate with years of experience.
