Job Description:

The Medical Underwriting Job at Acko involves evaluating health insurance applications through detailed medical risk assessments. The selected candidate will review clinical documentation, laboratory investigations, and diagnostic reports to determine appropriate underwriting decisions. This role also requires direct interaction with customers during Tele-Medical Evaluations (Tele-MER), ensuring clear communication and a customer-centric approach while maintaining regulatory compliance and service quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive medical underwriting and clinical risk assessments.
  • Evaluate customer medical history, laboratory reports, and diagnostic investigations.
  • Review cases after PPMC evaluation and determine underwriting decisions.
  • Recommend policy acceptance, exclusions, premium loading, postponement, or decline based on clinical findings.
  • Interpret advanced cardiac investigations including ECG, 2D Echo, and TMT.
  • Conduct Tele-Medical Evaluations (Tele-MER) and explain underwriting decisions to customers.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with regulatory and internal underwriting guidelines.
  • Maintain service quality standards and turnaround time targets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve underwriting efficiency and customer experience.

Eligibility Criteria for this Medical Underwriting Job:

  • MBBS / BDS degree from a recognised medical institution with valid Medical Council registration.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in health insurance underwriting, clinical risk assessment, or medical adjudication.
  • Proven mastery in evaluating laboratory reports and specialised diagnostic profiles (specifically ECG, 2D Echo, and TMT).
  • Excellent verbal communication, customer-centric call handling qualities, and active listening skills.
  • High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and comfort operating in a fast-paced, digital-native environment.
