Duty Doctor Job Description:
This duty doctor job involves assisting consultants and intensivists in managing ICU patients, ensuring continuous monitoring, accurate documentation, and timely clinical interventions. The position demands dedication, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to patient care in a fast-paced critical care environment.
Duty Doctor Job – Key Responsibilities:
- Report 15 minutes before duty for proper handover and continuity of care.
- Attend ICU rounds with consultants and nursing teams to discuss treatment updates.
- Monitor patient vitals, input-output charts, and ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Perform and assist with procedures like intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, and arterial line placement.
- Verify medication orders and ensure correct administration as per the treatment chart.
- Conduct ECG, ABG, and other emergency diagnostics promptly and report findings to consultants.
- Update hospital management before admitting critically ill patients.
- Maintain proper legal documentation for MLC cases and ensure compliance with hospital standards.
- Communicate regularly with patients’ families regarding condition updates and treatment plans.
- Assist in discharge summaries, follow-up lab results, and treatment modifications as advised by consultants.
- Train paramedical staff on ICU protocols and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Be available for emergency calls and contribute to hospital audits and quality projects.
