The Department of Biotechnology, under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, has announced a call for applications for the Biotechnology Career Advancement and Re-Orientation (BioCARe) Programme for Women Researchers for the year 2026-27. This BioCARe Programme initiative aims to enhance the participation of women researchers in the field of Biotechnology.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is a key component of the Ministry of Science and Technology in India, focusing on the development and promotion of biotechnology in various sectors. The department plays a vital role in fostering research and innovation in biotechnology, supporting projects that contribute to the advancement of science and technology in the country.

Notification Summary:

The Department of Biotechnology invites applications for the BioCARe Programme, specifically designed for Indian women researchers. The programme aims to support their career development in biotechnology, with specific eligibility criteria and support mechanisms in place.

Eligibility Criteria for the BioCARe Programme:

  • The fellowship is open to Indian Women Nationals up to the age of 55 years residing in India who are unemployed as of the closing date of the application.
  • The project duration will be up to 3 years.
  • Applications can be submitted under two categories:
    • Category-I: Women researchers who have completed a PhD in any discipline of Biotechnology/Life Sciences or allied areas/interdisciplinary sciences/MD/MDS/M.V.Sc.
    • Category-II: Women researchers who have completed M.Tech in Biotechnology or in allied areas/M.Pharma/equivalent Degree holders.
  • Candidates registered or enrolled in higher studies/Ph.D. and/or receiving any fellowships are not eligible to apply.
  • Research support will be provided only to women researchers who are unemployed or not in a regular position, and this must be their first extramural research grant.

Nature of Support:

The fellows will receive a consolidated grant that includes non-recurring and recurring expenses required for conducting the proposed research project, along with a fellowship.

Important Dates:

Last Date for Submission: The last date for submission of applications is thirty (30) days from the date of advertisement of the call for applications, which is 23 September 2026.
