Scientific Writer Job Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- 3+ years (Senior Writer) or 5+ years (Expert Writer) experience in medical communications, medical affairs, or clinical research.
- Advanced degree in medicine or related fields (MD).
- Proven track record of scientific writing across multiple content types.
- Strong analytical ability with proficiency in understanding scientific datasets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience in at least one major therapeutic area: oncology, neurology, immunology, fertility, cardiometabolic, or endocrinology.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in pharma/biotech or medical communications agencies with international exposure.
- Ability to manage diverse projects and collaborate with global teams.
- Familiarity with publication planning, congress deliverables, and medical education strategy.
Role:
The Senior Scientific Writer will be part of Merck’s Global Scientific Communications Content Hub, a high-performing team responsible for medical communications, medical education materials, and scientific content development. The role involves collaborating with global medical units, contributing to publication strategies, preparing scientific documents, and supporting data communication initiatives for key therapeutic areas. Writers will work within a multidisciplinary R&D ecosystem and engage with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scientifically accurate content.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality scientific content, including publications, congress materials, slide decks, and medical education content.
- Interpret complex scientific datasets and generate accurate, compliant, and engaging communication outputs.
- Collaborate with global therapeutic area teams across oncology, neurology & immunology, fertility, and cardio-metabolic & endocrinology.
- Manage multiple writing projects independently while meeting timelines and quality standards.
- Contribute to team-wide process improvement, quality enhancement, and innovation initiatives.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in scientific communication and publication standards.
