Role Summary

The Resident Medical Officer will support day-to-day clinical operations, manage patient care across shifts, coordinate with consultants, handle emergencies, and ensure accurate documentation. The role requires active participation in rounds, admissions, discharges, and maintaining continuity of care across morning, evening, and night duties.

Key Responsibilities

Morning Duty

  • Take handover from the night RMO regarding patient conditions, admissions, and acute events
  • Evaluate new admissions, take history, conduct examinations, and coordinate investigations
  • Prepare patients for surgery and ensure informed consent
  • Notify consultants of unusual results or readiness for surgery
  • Complete and send case files to the OT
  • Receive post-operative patients and record shift notes
  • Prepare discharge summaries (especially pending from night duty)
  • Join the consultant and nursing rounds
  • Attend emergencies if EMO is unavailable
  • Handover to the evening team

Evening Duty

  • Take handover from the morning RMO
  • Visit all new patients and post-op cases
  • Accompany consultants during evening rounds
  • Complete pending paperwork and case files
  • Handle emergencies
  • Handover to the night RMO

Night Duty

  • Take a detailed handover from the evening RMO
  • Conduct rounds and record overnight events
  • Manage emergencies and planned discharges
  • Update consultants between 8:30 and 9:00 PM and 8:30 and 9:00 AM
  • Document the night report in the patient files
  • Work up files for new admissions and inform consultants
  • Provide a morning handover with revised details
