Assistant Editors are research subject matter experts responsible for managing tasks associated with services provided by the Wiley Peer Review Desk, where subject expertise is required or highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake subject-matter-expert-driven screening of manuscripts in nursing and health science
- Raise integrity concerns through appropriate escalation channels
- Evaluate new submissions for suitability based on journal scope and policy
- Select and invite peer reviewers
- Assess reviewer reports and make Accept, Reject, Revise, or Refer decisions
- Review revised manuscripts and assess the quality of changes
- Identify suitable Wiley journals for manuscript transfers
- Review rebuttals and take appropriate editorial action
- Participate in pilot and special editorial projects
- Review performance data to improve peer review services
- Collaborate with senior editors and line managers
- Participate in subject-area editorial clusters
- Stay updated through seminars, webinars, and conferences
- Provide peer-to-peer training and support vendor accreditation
- Act as an escalation point for Peer Review Desk vendors
