Job Description:

This Junior Consultant Job at Zydus Hospital involves providing optimal patient care within the ICU and hospital environment. The selected candidate will take patient rounds, manage emergencies, respond to emergency codes, assist consultants, monitor reports, perform necessary clinical procedures and participate in ICU academic activities. The position also requires accurate medical documentation, effective coordination with nursing and clinical teams, patient handovers and participation in compulsory hospital-based training.

Key Responsibilities:

The role of a Junior Consultant at Zydus Hospital entails a range of responsibilities to ensure optimal patient care in the ICU. Key duties include:

  • Taking rounds of every patient admitted to the ICU.
  • Managing emergencies in the ICU and hospital.
  • Responding immediately to any emergency codes activated within the hospital premises.
  • Attending consultant rounds and adhering to their advice.
  • Collecting reports and keeping the consultant informed.
  • Monitoring and guiding the medical officer on duty and nursing staff.
  • Informing the concerned consultant about new admissions and events, and following their advice.
  • Performing procedures in the ICU as necessary.
  • Participating in academic activities within the ICU.
  • Transporting patients on mechanical ventilation.
  • Completing brief admission examinations of each patient when appropriate and documenting clinical findings.
  • Ensuring the highest standards of patient care for all patients attending or admitted to the hospital.
  • Attending ward rounds with consulting doctors as required and being available to discuss patient treatment plans.
  • Providing 24-hour medical services within the hospital on an on-call basis.
  • Informing admitting consultants of any changes in patients’ medical conditions and relevant actions taken.
  • Following the instructions of consultants for their specific regimes for each patient.
  • Performing clinical procedures as requested by consultants.
  • Visiting patients as required at the request of nursing staff.
  • Countersigning any drug instructions given by consultants over the telephone and ensuring prescribing requirements are met.
  • Documenting daily visits to all in-patients in clinical notes.
  • Familiarizing oneself with all relevant procedures and policies.
  • Liaising closely with nursing staff and other relevant clinical or administrative personnel.
  • Ensuring comprehensive handovers, with full patient rounds, at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Maintaining accurate and concise medical records for patients with appropriate signed and dated entries.
  • Arranging investigations, surgical treatments, and discharges as directed by the registrar or consultant.
  • Completing discharge summaries and correspondence promptly.
  • Participating in compulsory hospital-based training, such as Fire, BLS/ACLS.
  • Keeping abreast of new developments, skills, technologies, and current literature to adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Seeking consent for any procedures intended to be undertaken.
  • Remaining on hospital premises while on duty and ensuring continuous cover in case of absence.
  • Performing any other work assigned by management as needed.

Eligibility Criteria for this Junior Consultant Job:

  • MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
  • 0 to 1 year of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in an ICU.
