Job Description:
The Cancer Care Officer will work under the overall guidance of the Team Leader, Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs and Co-morbidities) at the WHO Country Office India and will directly report to the NPO-NCDs. This medical job involves providing technical, operational, and programmatic support to national cancer care initiatives, including prevention, screening, early detection, treatment, and surveillance.
Qualifications:
Education
- Essential: University degree in medical science or an equivalent health-related degree from a recognized university
- Desirable: Postgraduate degree in Public Health or Public Health Administration
Experience
- Essential: Minimum one year of experience at the national level with exposure to cancer care
- Desirable: Experience in government or social sector programs
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of Mission Umeed, a comprehensive cancer care project in Punjab
- Provide technical input for screening and early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers
- Assist in operationalizing and updating cancer care management guidelines and SOPs
- Provide technical support for establishing the Day Care cancer chemotherapy centers
- Conduct field visits to states and districts for technical supervision
- Support cancer research and evidence generation
- Collect, collate, and analyze data from the National NCD Portal
- Monitor the progress of oral, cervical, and breast cancer indicators
- Support capacity building, program monitoring, and cancer surveillance
- Review surveillance data for performance assessment
- Provide technical support for childhood cancer initiatives
- Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documents as per WHO standards
- Review contractual proposals and provide technical inputs
- Work closely with NCD officers at the national level
- Undertake additional tasks assigned to support NCD program objectives
