The Subject Matter Expert will review inpatient medical records, assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG codes, maintain coding quality, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, and support documentation improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities:
- Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient services.
- Abstract additional data elements during the Chart Review process as needed.
- Adhere to ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and/or AHIMA.
- Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge by reviewing materials from management.
- Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
- Organize and prioritize all work to ensure compliance with regulatory and client guidelines.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient records in compliance with HIPAA policies.
- Comply with all company policies and directives.
Eligibility Criteria for this Non-Clinical Job:
- Allied Medicine Graduates with certification from AAPC or AHIMA; CIC certification preferred.
- 3+ years of Acute Care Inpatient medical coding experience.
- 1+ years in multispecialty IP DRG coding.
- Experience in a level I trauma center or teaching hospital.
- ICD-10 (CM & PCS) and DRG coding experience.
