Job Description:
To contribute to the prevention and control of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD), with a special focus on improving routine immunization coverage, measles and rubella elimination, maintaining elimination of polio, as well as maternal and neonatal tetanus, and the introduction of new vaccines. To assist member countries in establishing sustainable systems that ensure good access to high-quality vaccines at affordable prices, including under-utilized or new vaccines of public health importance.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, IVD, and overall guidance of HDC, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Support countries with actions for routine immunization coverage improvements, including an analysis of the cause of low coverage and development, implementation, and monitoring of operational plans to overcome barriers to achieve high immunization coverage.
- Develop guidelines and facilitate training activities related to immunization and vaccine-preventable disease control.
- Provide technical assistance to countries for overall immunization policy development as well as the development of costed multi-year plans for immunization.
- Review opportunities for integrating immunization services with the health system in countries and provide technical support, including monitoring the implementation of Gavi-supported health system and immunization system activities.
- Support surveillance of adverse events following immunization (AEFI).
- Assist relevant staff in IVD for surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases and use disease surveillance data to improve immunization strategies.
- Support regional and country-level demand generation for vaccination, including collaboration with other partner organizations.
- Mobilize and leverage resources—technical, financial, and human—to support capacity strengthening, policy integration, and innovative programming, aligning resource mobilization efforts with WHO’s strategic objectives.
- Deliver comprehensive, timely, client and solution-oriented technical and administrative support across all budget centers, proactively strengthening country office capacity through responsive engagement, collaboration, and accountability to deliver measurable results for Member States.
- Perform any other related work assigned by supervisors.
- Submit an end-of-assignment report (mandatory).
Eligibility Criteria for this WHO Technical Officer Job:
- Degree in medicine or health sciences
- Post-graduate/Master’s degree in public health, child health, or related disciplines.
- At least five years of relevant experience in immunization and vaccine-preventable disease control programmes.
- Demonstrated exposure at the international level.
- Experience in public health, health systems, vaccine-preventable disease surveillance, or communicable disease epidemiology.

Remuneration:
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 71,335 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1,718 per month (currently at Rs. 1,64,000) for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
