Job Description:

The Medical Science Liaison job at Novartis is a field-based, customer-facing, non-promotional scientific role focused on advancing clinical practice and supporting healthcare professionals within the assigned territory. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) plays a key role in building scientific relationships with healthcare providers and medical experts while providing accurate and balanced medical information. The position requires strong therapeutic expertise in CART Immunology, deep understanding of territory dynamics, and the ability to collect actionable insights that help shape medical strategies.

This Medical Science Liaison job also requires collaboration with internal teams across Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, and commercial functions to ensure a unified approach aligned with company policies and compliance standards.

Qualifications:

Education:

Experience:

MSL Manager Level

  • 0–3 years of experience in a Field Medical position or as an MSL in the pharmaceutical industry, OR
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in medical affairs, clinical research, or a related clinical/scientific setting.

MSL Associate Director Level

  • Minimum 3 years of field medical experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred, OR
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in medical affairs, clinical research, or scientific roles.

Additional Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong clinical knowledge including pharmacotherapy and treatment guidelines.
  • Understanding of clinical research processes and FDA promotional regulations.
  • Expertise in medical expert engagement strategies and healthcare communication.
  • Ability to work within ethics, compliance, and regulatory frameworks.

Salary and Compensation:

  • Manager Level: $145,600 – $270,400 per year
  • Associate Director Level: $160,300 – $297,700 per year

Key Responsibilities:

Scientific Engagement with Healthcare Professionals

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and medical experts.
  • Engage in scientific discussions related to clinical data, disease management, and treatment advancements.
  • Educate stakeholders on disease state information and product-related medical insights.

Territory and Stakeholder Management

  • Develop a strategic territory plan aligned with the Novartis medical strategy.
  • Identify key stakeholders influencing the patient journey and therapeutic area.
  • Map key accounts and plan targeted medical engagements within the assigned region.

Medical Strategy and Insights

  • Collect actionable insights from healthcare professionals and translate them into strategic recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with academic institutions, centers of excellence, and healthcare systems.

Clinical Trial Support

  • Provide support for company-sponsored clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations teams to facilitate medical activities related to ongoing studies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal teams including HEOR, access, marketing, sales, and commercial functions while maintaining a One Novartis approach.
  • Support therapeutic area goals and product lifecycle activities.

Compliance and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with Novartis ethics policies, federal regulations, and industry guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in CRM systems such as Veeva.
  • Complete training, expense reports, and administrative responsibilities on time.
