Job Description:
This Medical Advisor job is a field-based scientific expert role in the assigned therapeutic area. The Regional Medical Advisor is responsible for executing Medical Affairs Plans for pre-launch and newly launched products or indications. The position works closely with internal stakeholders to drive enhanced patient outcomes and ensure the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines. The position may also lead evidence generation activities as part of implementing the medical strategy and acts as a catalyst by understanding the health system environment, priorities, clinical pathways, and patient journeys.
Qualifications:
Desirable:
- Doctoral degree (M.D.)
- Experience in pharmaceutical industry, regulatory environment, clinical or preclinical research.
- Knowledge of therapeutic area disease state and treatment.
- Experience with drug discovery, drug development, and KEE interactions.
Essential:
- Scientific degree or Master’s degree in a scientific discipline.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate internally and externally using multiple channels.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- High analytical and conceptual thinking ability.
Key Responsibilities:
Scientific Expertise
- Maintain clinical and scientific expertise in disease state management, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and competitive landscape.
- Contribute to the development and provide leadership for the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP).
- Act as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support internal training and mentoring within the therapeutic area.
Scientific Exchange
- Engage in peer-to-peer dialogue with key customers.
- Deliver clinical and scientific content using the appropriate channel mix to differentiate AstraZeneca products.
- Respond to unsolicited customer inquiries with balanced scientific information.
- Provide clinical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify and build relationships with KEEs and scientific thought leaders.
- Organize scientific events such as MSL events, Symposiums, Advisory Boards, Scientific Exchanges, and Meet the Professor sessions.
- Collaborate with KEEs on study proposals and publications.
Customer Insight
- Identify, gather, analyze, and report relevant scientific insights.
- Provide actionable medical and product strategy recommendations.
- Partner with stakeholders to identify gaps in patient experience journeys.
Strategic Relationship
- Develop peer-level relationships with healthcare professionals and experts.
- Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators.
- Support data generation and Investigator Sponsored Studies.
- Expand engagement to non-traditional KEEs including government and payer groups.
- Establish sustainable partnerships addressing healthcare access gaps.
