MLT Job Description
This Officer job involves receiving, verifying, labeling, and entering patient samples into the LIS while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing. The Accessioning Officer plays a critical role in maintaining sample integrity, minimizing errors, and supporting smooth laboratory workflow, making it a key MLT job in diagnostics operations.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Receipt & Verification
- Receive and verify samples along with Test Requisition Forms (TRFs).
- Check patient details, test codes, barcodes, and sample type for accuracy.
- Ensure proper labeling and accessioning of all samples into the LIS.
Sample Management
- Sort and route samples to respective laboratory departments.
- Ensure sample integrity, appropriate storage, and adherence to handling guidelines.
- Track missing, incorrect, or delayed samples and escalate when required.
LIS Entry & Documentation
- Accurately enter patient/test information into the LIS.
- Ensure error-free barcode generation, printing, and mapping.
- Maintain logs for daily sample receipts, discrepancies, and sample rejections.
Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to NABL/ISO requirements for sample handling and documentation.
- Maintain biosafety standards and follow laboratory safety protocols.
- Participate in internal audits and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with Phlebotomy, Logistics, and Lab teams for sample-related clarifications.
- Communicate discrepancies, sample re-collections, and missing information promptly.
- Support operational teams in resolving sample-related escalations.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Familiarity with diagnostic sample types and collection requirements
- Proficiency in LIS operations and MS Office tools
- Good communication and coordination abilities
