Phlebotomist Job Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Phlebotomy, DMLT, or equivalent
- Valid certification/registration as a Phlebotomist (where applicable)
- 1–2 years of experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory
- Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, and biomedical waste management
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, or holidays
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Role Overview
The Pathology Phlebotomist will be responsible for safe, accurate, and professional collection of blood and other clinical specimens while ensuring patient comfort and strict adherence to hospital and laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection across all age groups
- Correctly identify patients and label specimens as per protocols
- Handle, store, and transport samples following safety standards
- Maintain infection control practices and biosafety compliance
- Enter patient and specimen data accurately into the LIS
- Assist pathologists and laboratory technologists when required
- Handle difficult venous access cases with professionalism
- Respond to emergency and stat sample collection requests
- Ensure proper biomedical waste disposal
- Maintain the cleanliness of the phlebotomy area and equipment
