TMC Careers—About the Program
The Division of GI Surgery at TMC is structured into three major subspecialties—HPB Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, and Foregut/Upper GI Surgery. As one of the highest-volume centers in Eastern India, the unit performs a wide spectrum of complex procedures, including pancreatic resections, major liver resections, esophagectomies, laparoscopic colorectal resections, and retroperitoneal sarcoma surgeries. The department also runs an active and expanding robotic surgery program with significant case volumes in GI oncology.
With increasing clinical and academic workload, the division is introducing clinical associate positions across HPB, colorectal, and upper GI services. Clinical Associates will function as a crucial link between Fellows and Consultants, actively participating in surgeries, managing patients, and delivering high-quality clinical care under consultant supervision.
Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- DrNB / MCh in GI–HPB Surgery or Surgical Oncology
- MS/DNB General Surgery with a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Onco-GI Surgery or Surgical Oncology (minimum 2 years)
TMC Careers—Role:
- Assist and independently manage operative and postoperative responsibilities under consultant supervision
- Support the subspecialty team (HPB, Colorectal, or Upper GI) in day-to-day clinical care
- Participate in high-volume, complex GI–HPB oncology cases, including robotic procedures
- Contribute to departmental academics, clinical discussions, and case presentations
- Serve as an integral bridge between Fellows and Consultants
Duration
- 1 year, full-time
- An interim assessment will be conducted at 6 months. Continuation for the remaining duration will depend on performance.
