Medical Advisor Jobs- Role:
The Senior Medical Advisor (Rare Diseases) will serve as the medical leader for AstraZeneca’s Rare Diseases therapeutic area in India. The role is responsible for driving medical strategy, scientific engagement, and evidence generation to strengthen AstraZeneca’s position as a leader in rare disease management. Acting as the bridge between science and business, the Senior Medical Advisor will shape medical affairs plans, ensure alignment with corporate strategy, and lead initiatives that drive sustainable improvements in patient care and healthcare ecosystem transformation. This position demands strategic foresight, cross-functional leadership, and a deep understanding of clinical practice, ensuring that AstraZeneca’s innovations translate into real-world patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of the Medical Affairs strategy and Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP) for Rare Diseases.
- Serve as the therapeutic area’s medical expert and provide strategic scientific input to cross-functional teams.
- Maintain up-to-date clinical and scientific expertise in rare disease management, competitive landscapes, and treatment guidelines.
- Support the development of scalable healthcare transformation initiatives that enhance patient access and care quality.
- Provide medical and scientific oversight for promotional material, ensuring compliance with AstraZeneca and regulatory standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals, policymakers, patient advocacy groups, and innovation partners.
- Leverage data analytics and digital tools to drive evidence-based decisions and impactful stakeholder engagements.
- Lead educational programs, clinical support activities, and scientific advisory board meetings to promote best practices.
- Collaborate with Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and internal stakeholders to align field insights with strategic priorities.
- Ensure operational excellence, adherence to compliance standards, and active contribution to a collaborative medical culture.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Medical degree (MBBS/MD) with specialization or relevant experience in rare diseases or related therapeutic areas.
- Extensive experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biopharma industry.
- Strong understanding of clinical research, drug development, and medical governance processes.
- Proven track record in developing and executing medical strategies and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
- Experience in basic research, R&D collaborations, or lifecycle management.
- Exposure to policy, patient access, and healthcare ecosystem partnerships.
- Innovative, agile, and data-driven mindset with a strong focus on patient outcomes.
