Job Description
The Responsibilities of the Resident Doctor include the following:
- Co-ordinate Ward Activities: The Resident will co-ordinate the activities of other staff in the ward and ensure smooth functioning of the ward activities as a team work.
- Thorough Patient Work-up: Conduct a thorough and detailed work-up of the patients at the time of admission and record all findings in the initial assessment case sheet.
- Care Plan Management: Document care plan in consultation with the primary physician and educate the patient about his/her condition.
- Rounds and Reporting: Make detailed rounds of all patients under care and appraise the Consultant of all findings, progress, and treatment plan.
- Documenting Investigations: Enter all investigation reports in the master investigation chart and communicate to the Consultant/Registrar.
- Handover and Communication: Hand over patients to the next Resident on duty, brief on necessary instructions, and communicate effectively with the nursing staff.
- Night Duty Responsibilities: Attend to calls personally during night duty, document patient status, and inform relevant hospital departments of whereabouts.
- Ethical Practices: Avoid prescribing treatment without examining the patient and ensure privacy and accompanied examination for female patients.
- ICU and Critical Care: Ensure constant monitoring and assistance for patients in ICU and assist in managing critically ill patients.
- Responsiveness and Knowledge: Stay conversant with the status of all patients under care and actively participate in patient care.
