Key Responsibilities
As the Medical and Public Affairs Lead at Merck, your key responsibilities will include:
- Medical Management and Leadership: Aligning local medical strategies with affiliate business realities, effectively managing the execution of tactical plans, and overseeing a broad portfolio of Medical Affairs tactics across various therapeutic areas.
- Talent Management and People Development: Leading talent review processes, developing comprehensive onboarding and training programs, and creating robust action plans for succession pools in key leadership positions.
- Regulatory & Compliance Management: Collaborating effectively on regulatory, reputational, and compliance issues, ensuring that resolutions satisfy both business needs and societal expectations.
- Scientific and Technical Leadership: Contributing strategically to discussions within cross-functional teams and managing effective and accurate scientific communication.
- Patient Advocacy and Policy Shaping: Identifying and engaging key stakeholders, implementing effective engagement strategies, and driving impactful initiatives to positively influence the clinical research landscape.
Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A university degree (Bachelorโs) is required, preferably in a scientific field relevant to the position. A secondary/advanced scientific degree (e.g., PharmD, PhD, DO, MD, MBBS) is required, with other advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MPH) being desirable.
- Experience: A minimum of 8 years in the pharmaceutical industry is required, with significant experience in Medical Affairs roles.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local and international regulations, including Good Clinical Practice, is essential.
- Healthcare Environment Knowledge or Public Health Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of the local healthcare environment is crucial.
